For many years the main emphasis in transport models has been to enrich their behavioural content and improve data collection methods aa a means to enhance their accuracy, robustness and to reduce costs. A parallel approach has sought to improve transport modelling by emphasising the use of readily available data for the development of simplified models. This approach has had an important impact in practice as it offers not only reduced costs but also simplified data collection and processing requirements.
