International Projects

As well as being a major training and service provider in the UK, we are also a leading exporter of project related training and institutional development overseas, often in support of internationally funded initiatives. We have worked in all parts of the world and with all the major funding agencies, including the World Bank, DFID, European Commission and EBRD, on training projects commanding budgets of up to 3.5M Euros. Many of our clients are UK and international consultants or contractors required to carry out training and knowledge transfer as part of studies or technical assignments. Training is an important element, which helps win overseas projects or adds value to existing contracts.

PTRC works with a vast network of trainers and educational specialists in the design and delivery of programmes overseas and draws on specialists from consultants, universities and practitioners working in local and central government and the private sector.

  • setting up counterpart training programmes
  • providing specialist trainers

  • institutional strengthening
  • the monitoring and evaluation of Human Resource Development programmes

We have assisted in the establishment and strengthening of research and training centres in several countries and arranged for the accreditation of courses via western universities and other examining bodies.

Inward Training Missions

In response to the demands of an increasing number of overseas professionals who wish to come to the UK and other parts of Europe for a short period of training, we can provide individually tailored study and training programmes incorporating short courses, conferences, study visits, working attachments with local authorities and personal tuition.

Research Projects

We have been involved in many research projects financed by the EU or other agencies, taking responsibility for running pilot training workshops on the new techniques developed by the project or for managing a programme of dissemination activities.

PORTAL - Promotion of Results in Transport Research and Learning

PORTAL provides teaching and study materials about the most significant subject areas of urban transport stemming from a wide range of EU research results. These materials comprise course notes, presentation slides, audio CDs and a collection of photographs and distance learning modules. They are available in up to 16 languages. PTRC was responsible for determining the priority topic areas via a training needs assessment carried out in 24 European countries and for quality control of the materials. For further information about PORTAL and to download these materials visit the portal downloadcentre

GUIDEMAPS

The GUIDEMAPS handbook "Successful transport decision-making" was the result of a three year EU funded research project Gaining Understanding of Improved Decision Making and Participation Strategies which involved 11 partners from 7 European countries. PTRC was responsibility for piloting training workshops on Stakeholder Engagement based on the GUIDEMAPS techniques. The "Successful transport decision-making" handbook is available from PTRC in hard copy format and electronically on CD-ROM. The hardcopy version is in 2 volumes. Volume 1 contains the principles and techniques and Volume 2 includes Factsheets on how to tackle each element of project management and stakeholder engagement. The CD-ROM contains and interactive version of both volumes as well as case studies and practice examples. To find out more about the GUIDEMAPS project visit:
